Spontaneous Group of Canti a Braccio in Ottava
Award Winning 2005

They come directly from the tradition of Canti a Braccio of Shepherds Poets, typical in the centre of Italy. Today just a few of people know the art of Canti a Braccio, which are improvised poems following the difficult rules of the eighth rhyme, complicated by the custom of declamation in form of dialogue, without ever losing the thread of the composition. It is an art born in Middle Ages and handed down from cultured shepherds of the unwritten word.
