ITINERANT CHAIRS If the task of witnesses is to transmit to new generations the culture of which they are carriers, the best place to facilitate this transition are the lecture halls, schools, squares and places where knowledge can be handed down orally.
Thanks to the project “ Itinerant Chair”, the Witnesses of Popular Culture can disseminate their knowledge, in order to pass the witness to new generations. These are real lessons on tradition, held by its original custodians, expression of a territory and of a social and economic history.
The awarded Witnesses will be itinerant teachers of this true “ University of Popular Culture”, namely the “ Itinerant Chairs of Popular Culture”, designed by the Italian Network of Popular Culture. They have to keep in touch the Witnesses of Popular Culture with the public, especially young people, to let them attend classes where the teacher is a 92 years old chorister, a 73 years old puparo or a choir singing from 30 years.
These lessons have a double meaning: firstly they give a chance to young people and students to learn about experience of these Witnesses of tradition; then, it is a chance for Witnesses to spread their knowledge and transmit them to the younger generations.
These are real lessons on tradition, held by its original custodians, expression of a territory and of a social and economic history.
